Workshop Description: The latest SHRM Civility Index research reveals that 44% of U.S. workers believe incivility in the U.S. will worsen in 2025, and 26% may leave their job next year because of incivility. Positive Communication skill building explores how we can help reduce defensiveness in ourselves and others in order to open up the possibility of positive productive dialogue/ problem solving through further building the skills of, and then problem solving participant identified challenges and barriers of: - - - Listening to understand. Speaking to understand. Accurately interpreting and portraying non verbal communication.
Learning Objectives:
- Using the experience, wisdom and brilliance of participants we will work together to:
- Foster a feeling of comfort and curiosity.
- Increase participants' comfort around conflict.
- Grow participants’ positive communication skill of listening to understand.
- Grow participants' positive communication skill of speaking to be understood.
- Grow participants' positive communication skill of interpreting and portraying non-verbal communication.
- Provide opportunities to build connection, collaboration and well being amongst Big Sky SHRM Members through skill building and conversation.
Speaker: Brooke Corr
Bio: Brooke has over 40 years of business leadership, skill-building, facilitation, and team-building experience. They earned their BSW, with honors, from the University of Montana, with an emphasis on communication, multicultural counseling, neuropsychology, and forgiveness and reconciliation. She is a Certified Mediator, Family Law Mediator, and Conflict Coach. They are also a SHRM Senior Certified HR Professional as well as hold the SHRM Workplace Investigation Certification.
Brooke has served as a one-on-one coach, facilitator, and educator and is a proud past Board Member of The Montana Mediation Association. Most recently, they were the Director of Synergistic Operations for EmpowerMT, where she also provided consultation, facilitation, skill-building, mediation, conflict interaction, and coaching services to people and entities across the state of Montana.
Due to increasing conflict, polarization and incivility, Brooke launched the PPLI in May of 2024. Brooke finds great joy in meeting people where they are and finding ways to empower them to move themselves where they want to go. Brooke loves to hike, snowshoe, rockhound, play music, and watch people and plants grow.
